Language and Inclusivity statement:
Doula: Every doula is a person and every person is different. Information provided about the roles, expectations and responsibilities regarding postpartum doulas on this site refers to myself, my personal practice, and requirements of my certification. It is these differences that allow you to find a doula that best connects with you and your individual desires and needs.
Postpartum: On this site, when using postpartum I am referring primarily to the first 4 months of parenthood. However the postpartum period is much longer and is experienced differently by everyone. My hope is that new parents receive critical support in those first few months and far beyond. Finding those lasting support systems is something I go over with every client and hope to leave you with at the end of our time together.
Motherhood: On this site when I use the word mother I am referring to the birthing person and/or the person choosing to breast/chest feed. This person undergoes different physical and emotional transformations than a non-birthing parent. And their needs and priorities will be different. This is not an assumption that all mothers are the birthing parent or breastfeeding and is not meant to exclude or reflect a hierarchy within a family unit. When working with clients the preferred language and pronouns of that family will always be used and respected.
Inclusivity: I mean it when I say EVERYONE deserves and benefits from postpartum care. This includes every ethnicity, race, religious background, socioeconomic status, gender identity, sexual orientation and physical and mental challenges. None of these factors will ever play a role in the decision to work together. Your recovery and restoration is my priority. I will support your family as it is, honoring its individuality with respect and compassion.
