What is a postpartum doula?

A doula is a non-medical assistant in prenatal care, childbirth, and/or the postpartum period. A postpartum doula specializes in the time beginning immediately after birth up to 4 months, prioritizing the needs, well-being, and recovery of the birthing person. Regardless of who you are, your birth, and perinatal experience, everyone experiences a huge transformation. With this transition comes enormous love and growth. There are also growing pains and challenges.  With neglect, the effects are rippling and occasionally devastating. Yet, it doesn’t have to be this way.

Studies have shown that women who have doula support during the postpartum period tend to have less postpartum depression, more successful feeding experiences, and better adjust to their new responsibilities. Additionally, postpartum doulas are often the first or only people to observe for signs of complications, infection, and/or postpartum mood disorders that would otherwise have gone amiss with standard care. When the mother is getting their due care, the whole family benefits. Resulting in a better newborn experience for everyone including baby. A postpartum doula empowers new parents with evidence-based information so they go on to care for themselves and their newborns with confidence.

In home customized postpartum and feeding support

Interested in postpartum support? Please don’t hesitate to reach out for a free initial consultation about what postpartum support could look like for you. Some people are looking ofr one or two visits, some people are looking for continuous support. Some people arrange postpartum support ahead of time. Some people out postpartum. Let’s talk about what works best for you.

My intention as a postpartum doula is to provide you with the support you need to gain confidence on your journey into parenthood, prioritizing your rest and recovery and to allow you the mental and emotional space to take in all the lessons this period in your life has to offer.

Rates:

Postpartum support is billed hourly. $85 for 1-2 hour visit. $35-45 (day/night) for each additional hour after that. Each visit has a two hour minimum per visit. Clients over 40 mins from my home have a 3 hr minimum per visit.

Cancelation policy:

Clients who cancel scheduled visits with 24hrs notice will receive a full credit for their time to be used at a future date.

Clients who cancel under 24hrs notice will still receive a full credit but will be charged at $40 cancellation fee.

Clients who wish to discontinue all future scheduled visits will receive a full refund, minus a $100 retainer fee.

There will be a $100 charge for all returned checks plus any other bank expenses incurred as a result.

Payments:

Unfortunately at this time, doula care is not fully covered by standard commercial  insurance. In New York, as of 2026, some insurance companies will reimburse the client for their doula expenses, whether it be birth, postpartum or both. Things are changing rapidly on this front, so be sure to call your insurance and see that the latest coverage is.

All charges will be invoiced.

Payments accepted:

  • cash/check

  • debit/credit/bank transfer through Doulado platform or square

  • PayPal/Venmo/Zelle

Limits of Practice:

I am well versed in the normal postpartum recovery period and infant care. Should I feel the recovery is not going as planned, I will advise you to consult with your midwife or medical professional.

As for working as a doula vs. lactation educator, when in caring for a newborn, feeding (no matter how you choose to feed) is the core work involved. So during home visits, I will be wearing both hats, and available to support where needed.

Due to liability issues I will not transport mother or baby in my car, nor drive them in another vehicle. I reserve the right to refuse any duties outside my scope of practice or may endanger my physical well-being or anyone else’s.
